Doctor Who by Craig Hinton6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() (2)/(3) Black Sheep took his idea rather too literally, and came up with a cover that used copyrighted images from Dynasty, digitally altered to look like Autons. This was never intended for public viewing, but simply to help Black Sheep realise his idea. (1) Along with the brief to Black Sheep to make the cover “ Spearhead From Space meets Dynasty“, Hinton also asked James Gent to design a temporary cover, which he could approve and pass on to the final designs as an example of his concept. With thanks to Craig, here we present a potted guide… ![]() The cover to Craig Hinton’s 2004 novel Synthespians TM went through several intriguing drafts. 2.5: The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith.Missing Episode Clips: Patrick Troughton.Missing Episode Clips: William Hartnell. The Disused Yeti: 1999 Survey Supplement.Graham Strong and the Power of the Daleks.Chasing Shadows: The Adventures of an Episode Hunter. Are There Missing Episodes in New Zealand?. ![]()

![]() ![]() But even when depicting the bitchiness of the princess, there is still a 3-dimensional and sympathetic side shown to those of the royal family, namely Feimz, the original prince. He comes to take over the current kingdom in power which is mainly full of the rich and greedy. He certainly gains a lot of power by the end, but not only does he become very physically and emotionally damaged, but a lot of different groups of people come to hate him simply for doing things that any leader has to to maintain power. The main character starts off as a typical overly innocent character with a shitty life, and most people would probably expect him to turn out happy by the end of this adventure. But they go through shit and come out developed with good purpose. None of the characters simply go through some shit and come out happy in the end. Not to mention that fantasies aren't about fun and magic all day this story doesn't hold back in physical and emotional cruelty that the characters go through. The overall theme I found is that legends/heroes are not perfect and polished the way they are written to be. This book really offers elements that you don't see in many fantasy stories. I'm reviewing the most recently updated version of this book, "Autumn Leaves". ![]()

Still life novel review6/28/2023 ![]() HarperCollinsįor anyone who hasn’t yet read it, “Still Life” is full of humanity: real, tangible, positive, hope-giving humanity. Moving from the Tuscan Hills and piazzas of Florence, to the smog of London’s East End, Still Life is a sweeping, joyful novel about beauty, love, family and fate. Evelyn’s talk of truth and beauty plants a seed in Ulysses’ mind that will shape the trajectory of his life – and of those who love him – for the next four decades. She has come to Italy to salvage paintings from the wreckage and relive memories of the time she encountered EM Forster and had her heart stolen by an Italian maid in a particular Florentine room with a view. ![]() Ulysses Temper is a young British soldier, Evelyn Skinner is a sexagenarian art historian and possible spy. ![]() 1944, in the ruined wine cellar of a Tuscan villa, as bombs fall around them, two strangers meet and share an extraordinary evening. ![]()

Philip Larkin by Andrew Motion6/28/2023 ![]() Firstly, he accidentally kills a hedgehog, with his lawn mower. The only two times, in the entire book, that I found any sympathy with Larkin was in two events towards the end of his life. ![]() Motion will say (paraphrased) Larkin hated foreigners, treated his women (including mum) appallingly, sometimes appeared to know only four letter adjectives, but was, really, a nice man. Motion professes to have been a friend of Larkin but the book, which the London Review of Books described as, "Honest but not prurient", often reads to me as 'catty'. Larkin knew that he was somewhat lacking in the social skills. It is hard to know how far to blame Larkin, and where to put the responsibility onto Andrew Motion's shoulders. I knew that reading a biography of Larkin could destroy any enjoyment of his poetry and, sadly, that is what this book has done. It is not that they make you laugh, but that I have to like the poet to like his/her work. ![]() Poets are a bit like comedians, in my book. ![]()

Beatles mark lewisohn volume 26/27/2023 ![]() The first 250 pages of Lewisohn’s book escort us out of the 1950s with a historian’s eye for detail and a measured prose style that serves its frequently overcooked subject well. “ couldn’t have known it,” writes Lewisohn, “but by slipping into Long Tall Sally he was sliding into John’s main artery.” The addiction was mutual, and would be cured, in time to come, with a great deal of pain. Paul switched to piano, and into his Little Richard routine. The normally scathing Lennon was rocked by McCartney’s precocious abilities. ![]() The younger boy, just turned 15, grabbed Lennon’s guitar, helpfully adjusted its unfamiliar banjo tuning, and burst into song. ![]() It was always evident in Lennon’s acerbic bullying of less keen intellects, and hilariously present in Paul McCartney’s jousting when he first met his mucker-to-be in July 1957. ![]() |
